The focus in my neurology practice is on whatever works best for the person in front of me. If someone has a seizure disorder, for example, this means a primary emphasis on a western evidence-based approach. For someone with migraines or back pain, a complimentary approach including vitamins, nutriceuticals, acupuncture, and psychosomatic considerations may be helpful. The two approaches may be combined when, for instance, in addition to prescribing medications to prevent seizures, a discussion of the potential role of physical and emotional stress in triggering seizures is undertaken.
In all cases, I respect the autonomy of those who seek my help as human beings with equal standing to myself, above and beyond the therapeutic relationship.
